    Songs of the Past , which is being co-developed with Fools Theory, a studio whose leadership is made up of The Witcher 3 veterans, was revealed during Opening Night Live at Gamescom. While we still don't have a specific release date, the expansion's first trailer gave us a taste of what to look forward to. We see Geralt of Rivia returning for a brand-new journey as he explores a new region, Letten, takes on creepy monsters, and wields a new chain weapon that can grapple enemies, first showcased in the first Witcher game.     CDPR Level design lead Miles Tost took to the stage during Opening Night Live at Gamescom to share a few more details about the game, including what
    players can expect.

    "We had this idea for one more story with Geralt for a while, but we couldn't quite figure out how to fit it into our busy schedule," Tost said. "Luckily, our friends from Fool's Theory and they hired a bunch of old veteran Witcher three developers, including my mentor, Peter Jennings, and here we are

So this chain is a weapon that is new in the game, but many people, perhaps hardcore Witcher fans, will realize that this is a
    weapon we first showed in The Witcher 1 intro, and we will talk about that in many more things here at Gamescom."

    On Letten, Tost called it "a whole new, unique region that has a unique identity," filled with quests, new monsters, adventures, and exploration.     "Just like the things that Witcher fans love," he said. "But it's an almost uncannily idyllic place that, however, has a dark secret lurking just underneath the surface. And as it is a Witcher game, this kind of secret requires a true professional witcher to solve."

    Alongside the expansion trailer, the studio also announced The Witcher 3:
    Wild Hunt Remastered , a free upgrade featuring all-new improvements and revamped gameplay features, arriving on September 29 for all platforms.

    The developer also confirmed that all those features will be in Songs of the Past as well.

    The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Songs of the Past is slated to launch in 2027, followed by The Witcher 4 , which CDPR has confirmed is targeting a 2028 release window .
