Aged 27, Pogacar already has four TdF titles to his name only Jacques Anquetil, Eddy Merckx, Bernard Hinault and Miguel Indurain have won five. The Slovenian is on course not just to draw level with those four greats but, eventually, leave them in the dust. Mark Cavendish's record haul of 35 stage victories is in his sights too. This year's race, however, has the potential to be one for the ages, and not just because of the calibre of the Tour de France favourites. With extreme heat set to impact proceedings like never before, teamwork is going to be vital.
Pogacar has won four Grand Tours despite regularly being at odds with the
rest of his UAE Team Emirates XRG stablemates, but things could be different this time around, with youngster Isaac del Toro eager to play his part as he steps up his development.
Vingegaard would arguably be the dominant rider in any other cycling era, but up against Pogacar the 29-year-old knows that his strength is the Visma-Lease a Bike collective. It's how the Dane bested Pogi in 2022 and 2023, and both men have arguably hit new levels since.
