"improved keyboard accuracy when typing quickly" But it seems that not every keyboard bug has been fixed Typing on your iPhones keyboard can at times be
an exercise in frustration between misspelled words and overzealous autocorrect interventions, typing what you want is sometimes harder than it should be. That's why an apparent bug in iOS 26 has caused such consternation among Apple fans in recent weeks, but it looks like a fix is on the way in
iOS 26.4.
The issue in question concerned so-called missing characters. Many users
found that iOS would sometimes ignore characters that were tapped when users were typing very quickly. This would force people to pause and then try the button again, slowing them down. Or the missing characters would cause autocorrect to misinterpret the word being typed, changing it to something that the user did not intend. Apple appears to have addressed this irritating problem in the latest iOS 26.4 beta . In its release notes accompanying the update, Apple said that the new version features improved keyboard accuracy when typing quickly. But as I've discovered, it might not have been able to squash every iOS 26 flaw related to typing. update should address the issue of missing characters. If youve been experiencing that while typing messages to friends and family, you might find that Apple has finally put things right.
However, I've been testing iOS 26.4 and have noticed that an infuriating bug linked to the emoji button whereby the emoji key is not recognized if you
are typing quickly appears to still be in place. This issue has been highlighted on social media, where Reddit user crazyserb89 , for example, saying the glitch drives me crazy.
In my experience, pressing the emoji button in the midst of a quick flurry of letters instead activated the 123/ABC button located above it. Only when I paused my typing did the emoji control work properly.
While anecdotal, that suggests that the iOS 26.4 update has not entirely
fixed the typing experience for Apple fans. Hopefully, Apple can put it right in a future update. Get daily insight, inspiration and deals in your inbox Sign up for breaking news, reviews, opinion, top tech deals, and more.
