d on by the Penn Central Railroad.

On checkins, please advise if you are "Short Time", or want to be just
"Listen Only". If either is the case, once ackowledged, you can secure
your station at your leisure, and go on your way.

Methods to checkin are as follows:

    1) On the QuadNet Array, via D-Star, DMR+, TGIF, WIRES-X, or Fusion.
Go to openquad.net for connection options.

    2) Via the IM Utility with Netlogger (netlogger.org). Those stations that connect then drop are noted as NO RESPONSE.

    3) Via the D-Star Trains And Railroads Net Facebook page.

    4) Via email to [email protected] or [email protected]

    5) Via APRS with a quick note to N5VLZ-10

    6) Via Ham.Live

Checkin methods 3-5 are automatically noted as "short time". Stations have until 1pm US Central Time on Saturday to checkin via email or via the
    Facebook group.

There is no penalty if you don't know the answer to the railroad trivia.
And, if you get it right, you get the satisfaction of doing so.

Lastly, first time checkins are eligible for a commemorative certificate
in PDF format, but it's available via email request/delivery only.

    Jimmy,

sked? Is that what you call a QSO on Echolink?

A sked is a time that you and another ham agree to on that particular
band and mode, just to chat.

I'm at my desk at work - probably all morning. :-) Just started
up Echolink - I have a friend that tells me about nets she
is on - I need to see what I can hear...

Work and snow are 4 letter words (hi hi)...but without work, there's
no money for ham radio play toys.

I did sign in on the Delta net last night... In between
    laundry. :-)

It reminds me of the meme where the OM is doing laundry. The XYL glares
at him, scowling "Look at you!! Doing laundry!! Last night, it was doing dishes...and the night before, it was vacuuming!! What part of 'YOU ARE
NOT GETTING A NEW HAM RADIO DO YOU NOT UNDERSTAND??!!" (hi hi).

Speaking of laundry, many restaurants nowadays ask if you want to leave
a tip BEFORE you get seated, and served your food or drink...and some will
have a pre-determined tip percentage (20% or more) on to the ticket. To me,
if the service is good, I will leave a tip...if not, I'm tempted to do what this one individual did.

He printed up a bunch of business cards, with how he felt on tipping. On
one side, he noted he disagreed with this compulsory tip policy, as it was unearned. On the other side, he noted "if you want a tip I'll give you 3 of them:"

    1) Plant your corn early.
    2) Keep your powder dry.
    3) Always have clean underwear on.

In some cases, when told about the tip deal, customers turned right around, and walked out of the restaurant, without ordering food.

Yes, I suppose I'm old school but I've always felt that, and even if
not shown ahead of time, when they bring the pay machine to the table
that rather large tip is already listed and it's a pain to change it
or eliminate it. You even get that when you order food for pick up.

In the old days, before this changed, I was one to leave small tips
usually, but a few times a waiter/waitress did exceptional service
and I left a much larger one.

One time I asked for 2 orders of an appetizer and the waiter told
me it was pretty big and I'd really just need one for myself and
my date. That saved me a fair bit, and I think the full amount
I saved went into his tip..

At another time, a waitress didn't explain things properly, nor
did the menu, and I ended up being charged 'extra' for things that
appeared to be included. I 'asked' about it after, and she ended
up calling the manager over. He ended up saying, If that's what
you understood then don't pay for those things.. I talked it over
briefly with my date and I figured that the waitress would probably
end up paying for it if we didn't so, in the end, I paid the bill
in full but the waitress got a $0 tip..

There is actually a ham store that will do that.

But, the hams worst fear is that he'll become a Silent Key, and his
XYL will sell his gear for what he told her he paid for them.

I do that with DoorDash, although I saw they had a recent data
