• Windows 11 Update

From Mike Dippel@954:895/1 to All on Monday, June 29, 2026 23:22:22
I have enjoyed updating friend's computers to Windows 11 even on unsupported machines.

I am currently vacationing in Michigan and had the opportunity to do another for
my sister-in-law. She doesn't have a lot of money but needed a working computer.

Microsoft says her computer didn't qualify but there is a workaround that Microsoft
does support. The process is time consuming but virtually foolproof.

If you have one that Microsoft says is unsupported and wish too do the upgrade, you
can go to: https://github.com/builtbybel/Flyoobe and follow the instructions.

Because I am travelling, I haven't had the chance yet to try out a free upgrade to
the Mac OS. I watched a YouTube video that explains the process and it looks foolproof
as well. If interested, you can view it at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QLxIWA0tOvE

I have several old computers and I love playing with them to see the various OS options.

Give Linux a shot. There are some excellent distros for people used to Windows.

In her case, she required Windows to be able to run the programs she needs. I personally have experimented with almost every distro for Linux and want to give MacOS a try.

I hate to admit that I am still tied to Windows, but I eliminate as much telemetry as I can. I hate when they spy on you.

Just curious, do you use an Android or iOS smartphone? They're basically telemetry machines in our pockets.

Good point. I have an Android, but I don't use Chrome browser. I installed Brave
    instead.

Good point. I have an Android, but I don't use Chrome browser. I installed Brave instead.

I wind up using Vivaldi everywhere. Windows, Linux, Android, all run Vivaldi as my main browser with sync turned on so my plugins and settings are the same on each.

Although I have had some issues with it recently. It plain refuses to run on my ham radio laptop, so I've resorted to using Opera as my main browser there.

...It works better if you plug it in.

Brave is the only thing I will use. It too will sync across devices and eliminates all ads.
This works well when I am on YouTube, which breaks up entire videos to display ads.
    Boo.
