A Canadian National Holiday
Dominion Day is the former name of Canada's national holiday, now known as Canada Day,
which is celebrated annually on July 1 to mark the anniversary of Canadian Confederation.
On July 1, 1867, the British North America Act (now the Constitution Act, 1867) went into
effect, uniting the colonies of Canada (which was split into Ontario and Quebec), Nova
Scotia, and New Brunswick into a single dominion within the British Empire.
