Hemoglobin A1C can NOT be lowered fast. Here is the reason why.
Hemoglobin, a protein, fills the red blood cells (RBC). Hgb A1C = glycosylated hemoglobin, or the one that connected to itself some glucose. Normal, non-diabetic,
hemoglobin always connects some glucose.
Red blood cells average life span is about 90 to 120 days (34 months). At the end of
those 34 months, RBCs break down, replaced by new RBC. RBC break down daily, hourly, constantly. After about 90 to 120 days, one can say that there are no more of
those RBCs that were present back then.
Whenever we test blood for Hgb A1C, we check for average percentage of glycosylated
Hgb in the last 34 months. If you do it 1 week later, the 34 months time frame started
from that 1 week ago.
Whatever the changes in the diet you make, may be reflected in 34 months time interval because then you can say there are no more old RBCs, all of them have been
replaced since the dietary changes have been made.
