I, for one, am disappointed that EA closed BioWare down without any pre-warning (that I know of).

I liked all the MASS EFFECT games.

Their reasoning was because two of their games that had come out as ONLINE ONLY didn't do well. Ya think? DRAGON AGE - enjoyed that series as well until it went ONLINE ONLY. The graphics sucked. The play was OK, but you no longer truly had the same feel as the previous versions.

Pity as they have legendary history from before EA acquired them and early years with MASS EFFECT (personally I don't like Dragon Age that much, I liked first, then it was meh so so).

But also kind of expected. EA keeps failing and since Muzyka and that other founder left BIOWARE it has become just another software house within EA doing what told and little risk.

People who created best games of BIOWARE are probably somewhere else already and last 10+ years showed that crpg is strong if not dominating genre in gaming. We still must thank BIOWARE for that.

    RIP.

Speculation I have read is that this is related to EA recently being bought. That purchase was finally approved and this is the first major business decision to happen since that approval. :(

EA is a business, I get it. But they are falling into the "double down on what's making money now" (e.g. multiplayer) and so much IP will be left on the table. Mass Effect, even legacy things like the Ultima brand, which Richard Garriot has some ownership soon, i think? I don't know if Soverign Wealth is going to fix their bad decision making... Sucks. Well, at least we'll get some more Star Wars games?

Yeah it's a bit of a shame, however does it really matter which name is behind the games. Surely if a game is good enough to sell, people will buy it. The games industry is so overly saturated now and even though I'm an old bugger, is there that much difference between say PS4&5 doesn't seem to be. My son is 15 and sits on his PC playing stupid old games with his mates, his xbox gathers dust. I think it's a sign of the times more than anything personal.

    Sad as it is!!

Well, Bioware has not released a heavy hitter in ages. It is completely natural for them to go under. If I were EA I would probably have closed the operation long time ago.

The Bioware we had this year is not the Bioware that gave us Baldur's Gate, KOTOR or Mass Effect. Chances are anything new from them for any of their flagship franchises would have been bad or, considering their recent record, not been profitable.

I am personally not disappointed myself because as far as I am concerned the golden days were long gone.

EA tends to sit on their franchises rather than let others use them. Kind of lame, that is one of the reasons why they get so much hate.

There is also the fact that the Saudi fund who bought EA is probably more interested in sports games and sports rights than in failing studios owned by EA. If you buy a company for their sports licenses and don't care much about the rest, the first thing you do is chop off the parts you don't want which happen to be losing money.
