Young Moon meets Mars (after sunset)
A short distance above the western horizon for an hour after sunset on
Tuesday, August 26 in the Americas, the young crescent moon will shine almost
a palm's width to the left (or 6 degrees to the celestial southeast) of Mars' reddish dot. Virgo's brightest star Spica will twinkle to the upper left of
the duo. Observers in more westerly time zones on Earth will see the moon farther from Mars.
