Clear DayIs anyone in here interested in photography?

This is my first post ever on a newsgroup, and first time using this old
tech and I love it so far!

Either way, photographers! Tell me about your gear! Doesn't need to be anything fancy, hell if you don't even have gear just talk about anything related to photography!

Personally I have used a few different sets of gear, but my all time
favorite (and set I miss) was a little Nikon D7200 DSLR that I fricckin
loved, I had a bunch of little Nikkor lenses that I loved too. Miss that little beast. After I graduated highschool I had to leave it behind, I would have bought it off my teacher but towards the end of the year she became a real dick, and me and her started having problems, later this year I will be filing a complaint for inappropriate behaviors, regardless I do miss that little camera. Maybe I will pick up a new one off eBay sometime!

    - Peace from Cali!

I like doing photography occasionally. And I actually still have my Nikon D7200, which I bought in 2015. I have a few lenses for it, most of them Nikon - The 18-140mm that came with it, an 18-300 ultra zoom lens, a couple of prime lenses (35mm f/1.8 and 50mm f/1.4), and a Sigma 18-35mm zoom lens with constant f/1.8 focal length.

When the Nikon D7500 came out, I wasn't really keen on its reduced resolution (20 megapixels, vs. 24 megapixels of the D7200) and only one memory card slot instead of 2 in the D7200, so I kept the D7200.

I bought the 18-300mm zoom lens to do some photography for an air show a year or two ago. I hadn't used that powerful of a zoom lens before, and most of the shots didn't come out as well as I'd hoped (many were a bit fuzzy/blurry).

Sometimes I've thought about selling my D7200 and possibly buying a mirrorless camera, but I don't really do much photography these days, and I feel like it's hard to justify doing that now. Also, for quick convenient photos, I think the smartphone I have now actually takes very good photos (it's a Google Pixel 8 Pro). Most of the time, I tend to just use my smartphone for photos these days; I rarely get out my D7200. I've thought about just selling my D7200 and not replacing it with anything, but not too long ago I had an opportunity to use my D7200, so I've kept it for now. I was doing some portrait shots of people in an indoor space, which had fluorescent lighting but also had big windows to let in sunlight, and I think the photos came out fairly good (I used the 35mm f/1.8 prime lens and the Sigma 18-25mm f/1.8 lens).

I do miss that little camera. Maybe I will pick up a new one off eBay sometime!

If you're planning on another D7200, Nikon doesn't make that model anymore, so you'd be looking at a used one. Unless you can find an unopened new old stock perhaps.

    couple of prime lenses (35mm f/1.8 and 50mm f/1.4), and a Sigma 18-35mm
zoom lens with constant f/1.8 focal length.

I had a number of those lenses! I remeber when I first fonud the Nikkor
len's in the cabinet I was so excited and fell in love with them. That D7200 and the Nikkor len's were forgotten, lost, and burried in the back of the closet. The rest of the classe, including I had been shooting on Canon M50
and T6 kits, with crappy kit lenses. Getting to use an old Nikkor lens and a D7200 for the first time instead of a starter canon kit lens was a whole new world. I was shocked with how sharp the images were! And no vignette(at
least compared to the Canon kit lenses)!

The moment I used that camera I fell in love with it and it became my main camera I stuck with, my photography teacher didn't understand why I would
want to use a older camera(she was a really bad photographer and teacher). Since the whole class was only familar with the Canon ecosystem, I had that Nikon all to myself. I borrowed it all the time, and even went back to redo shoots I had done with a T6, with the D720. I reshot a abandon railroad
bridge near me(forgot about those photos, still need to edit them lol). That D7200 was a dream, I should have stolen it honestly. I stole a tripod from her, and a small lightbox, but really I should have snatched up that D7200,
I also just remembered there was a Nikon speedlite in that closet, I should have snatched those up haha.

Sometimes I've thought about selling my D7200 and possibly buying a mirrorless camera, but I don't really do much photography these days, and

That's really cool, it's always awesome to see a camera of that age getting good use in still and being usful. It truly still is a great camera,
although quite heavy and chunky compared to todays lightweight flassy mirrorless cameras. I can't lie though, I got a iPhone 13 Pro and I actually do love the camera on it haha, phone camera's have gotten really good. Phone camera's are great for casual photos, I primarly use it for photos of my friends and whatnot, just sudden need to capture this moment kind of uses. I've always thought about getting a tiny mirrorless camera with a pancake
lens and using that, of course that would be later on down the road. But
yeah, phone cameras have gotten really good lol. Still gotta love those handheld DSLR's and mirrorless cameras tho.

If you're planning on another D7200, Nikon doesn't make that model
anymore, so you'd be looking at a used one. Unless you can find an
    unopened new old stock perhaps.

That actually raises a really good point, a D7200 is a rather old camera and will only continue to deprecate in value over time, so picking that camera simply because it's familiar isn't really a good choice. I would get a
camera that would be aged, or aging, and unless I found a new old stock that camera would have a rather poor value. I think I should really consider at least getting a slightly newer camera, or at least get the D7200 and build
up a lens collection then get a newer better body.

I love these newsgroups, I am brand new to them and everyone has been so
nice and had such interesting stories to tell and such interesting things to say. Thank you for reaching out! Hopefully this reads well, still getting
the hang of how this works lol.

I did a lot of street photography on film in the 2000s - mostly on a
LOMO LC-A and an Olympus XA/XA2. PLayed with a Canon DSLR, but most of
my photos nowadays are on a cameraphone or an older digicam.

I have a host of older digital cameras - a Canon Digital Elph running
custom firmware to allow me to shoot raw, a Nikon Coolpix 995 and a
4300, those models from the early 2000s with the rotating body. They're
fun because they have a threaded ring on the lens and can mount a
polarizer, neutral density filter, wide angle and telephoto
attachments. It also has a full manual setting.

I'm not driven my megapixels, I want to be able to print at 5x7 or
show them on the web. Then again, I was never a fine art photographer.

Shooting film with a Canon manual SLR, their mass produced 50 1.4 lens,
and fast 100 speed film ruined me for kit lenses. I borrowed a Canon
AE-1 Program years ago, am looking over at my bookcase now at a Canon
    FTb with that lens...
