Luckily we seem to be entering a new era where people are turning awa
from the big tech - slowly, and not 100% for sure. But at least now
see more people talking about it than ever before.

I'm seeing more gemini spaces, tilde web spaces, blog hosts like bear
blog, and self-publishing than I've seen in a while. Neocities seems to
be doing well, too.

I've recently joined Cyberspace.online and notice quite a few younger folks on there talking about how they came there seeking to get away from big-tech sites and gravitating more towards Web 1.0 type sites like that one. It's cool to see.

BTW if any of you fine folks are also on Cyberspace, hit me up! Macross introduced me to it... pretty cool vibe there.

You can grab it there, linux only but I had the AI write docs to install
it under wsl. Yes, I use claude, it can generate code much faster then
I can, I use pascal as it's the only language I know well enough to make
sure claude isn't introducing spyware.

It needs modern linux terminal as well to display the fonts and images correctly. I use ghostty and kitty for testing, on windows I use the
terminal preview to run wsl in.

Sounds good! I'm on limited internet for the next few days. Our trailer
roof caved in over the winter and the whole unit filled with black mold.

the area rugs you'd see how the lamanite doesn't quite fit everywhere. LOL

Project this weekend is to fix the furnace, the toilet (always the fucking toilet always always always plumbing and I hate hate hate plumbing), and
fix one of the two broken lawn mowers. Most of my data will have to used watching youtube videos on how to do this and just blindly following some random youtube guy and hoping it works. (I'm not sure why we need to
package all this gunpowder and gasoline in a food grade bucket to fix a lawnmower, but it's on the internet so it must be true!)

One of them bought a new house and immediately replaced all of the
toilets. Because, of course, you don't want to use someone else's
used toilet in your house. The other person acted like that was a

I've never replaced a working toilet in a house I bought. I did replace
one toilet that was on the water company's evil list for needing some
ungodly amount of water to flush. We replaced it with a basic toilet
from Home Depot that was free after rebates from the water company.

No we tore it down. Andrea found a park model that she liked and bought
it. We're in the same park just in the other (more busy) end. I really
miss the old private lot, but this trailer is much nicer.

I still need to renovate the bathroom and build a deck / gazebo but I
think it will wait until next year. For the rest of the season (a month)
I'm going to just enjoy being out of the city.

RV that doesn't really move. Too large to tow with anything except a
transport truck. Ours is for "camping" so we're in a seasonal park that
is only open from Victoria Day to Thanksgiving (early oct).

and then built the cabinet OVER the toilet so you can't fix it.

Since I'm currently flushing with a usb cable I tied to the chain and
have to remove the toilet to fix, I'm going to replace with a ceramic
camping style one (foot control) that doesn't use as much water. I'm
hoping to be able to do this without destroying the counter, but if I
need to cut it I will.

Heh, I was going to build this on the Pi I'm connected into but FPC wants to install almost a gig of X11 packages. Wtf does it need that for?

Well I'll have to run it from something else, anyways. Guessing it won't work so well on this 8bit computer if it needs a fancy terminal anyway ;).

It would be cool if cyberspace.online's site supported a text browser, or if there was a lite.cybespace.online site or something. Oh well, it'll have to wait until I get to a newer computer.

You'd have to ask the developers of lazarus. :) When possible I make it generic, but for the cyberspace client it needs a lot of modern tools
for playing music, displaying pictures etc. Tiespace needs a modern
computer as well it's doing a lot of stuff for something that looks so
simple. :)

It would be cool if cyberspace.online's site supported a text browser,
or if there was a lite.cybespace.online site or something. Oh well,
it'll have to wait until I get to a newer computer.

I think the late.sh or something like that client has support for cs now
and it does support all text. I just can't think of the name right now.

I guess, sort of, yes. The draw for that site I think is that its a Web 1.0 version of it and they purposefully did not include things like: ads, videos, algorithms, suggestions, like buttons, tracking, crypto, bots, etc.

And haven't been on there now for a while, I can definitely see how it differs from BBSing. I wouldn't stop BBSing for it because the way people communicate on it is still very "social media" like. For example I notice people sometimes use it more like a diary, or to post just random stuff, or to just say how they're feeling, or rant post, or say what they are eating.

You do get quality posts sometimes, but it does still have that "social media lite" type of feeling. BBSing I noticed on the other hand seems to be full of posts (for the most part) purposefully intended to evoke discussion/conversation.

So it really does feel like two different worlds to me. I like both honestly. I like Cyberspace because the community there is pretty cool and I learn about new cool tech and people. I do have to sift past a lot of the sort of low quality posts, but I do still enjoy it. I also don't like full Facebook style social media so can appreciate that they are at least "dialing it down".

It would be a lot cooler if it worked on Netscape 3.0. Get rid of the HTTPS! I'm working on a similar
idea, but it's meant to be an old Facebook clone. I REALLY want it to work on old browsers, but
there's still too much CSS and JS. :(
